Young Athletes' League

Friday 21 May 2010

FULL RESULTS NOW IN. Cardiff's YAL team made a successful trip to Rugby last Sunday, 16th May, taking first place ahead of Solihull and Telford. This gives the team a realistic goal of competing in the regional final at Alexander Stadium in Birmingham on 1st August.

Match result:  1.  Cardiff (498);  2.  Solihull & Small Heath (483);  3.  Telford (448).

League position after two rounds:

1.  Rugby & Northants  (1326 points)
2.  Swansea  (1204)
3.  Cheltenham  (1105)
4.  Cardiff (1023)
5.  Yate  (982)
6.  Wolverhampton & Bilston  (953)

The first four teams after four rounds will qualify for the regional final.

In a good all round team performance, a number of competitors stepped out of their comfort zone to participate in an unfamiliar event and win points for their team. Cindy Kitenge (won the Hammer), Jacob Preece (3rd in the hammer), Sylvia Kitenge (1200), Claire Harwood (won the discus), Megan Williams and Leonora Foley (1200m), Jo McLean (setting a PB in the triple jump) are but a few of these heroes.

This kind of support shows the commitment and willingness of all athletes to ensure the club's success.

Individual event winners were:

Under 17 boys:  Jamaul Whyte (100m & 200m);  Tyrone Blake (100m H & 400m H);  Matthew Field (Hammer & Shot Put);  James McGuire (LJ & TJ);  Ryan Leonard (Discus).

At every event we have new athletes (and parents to support them) and it is a great pleasure that they join in and help the club to achieve its goals. Thanks again.

The next round will be at Yeovil on 20th June and another solid performance is needed there to put the team in a good position for the final.
