Welsh Schools XC Championships 2019

The Welsh Schools Cross Country races (now under Welsh Athletics) were held in mild sunny conditions at Brecon. The course was altered due to the new school being built on field at back of the track stand, where a lap of the cross country course and finish used to take place. Yesterday's races followed the tough hill course at the GL Pontypool event last Saturday. Runners that raced at Pontypool might have been affected, by the short recovery time. The first 6 runners are automatic selection for Wales SIAB Schools team held in Dublin on 23rd March. There are 8 runners in SIAB teams, for Senior and Middle age groups races, the last two runners in teams, are selected later after yesterdays races.

Senior Boys race. Larry Ryan, took lead after one lap, and held on for a ten second win over a testing course. Morgan James (GV) with a solid 4th place, had automatic selection. 

C&V Senior Boys team. Larry Ryan 1st, Dylan Nazareth 10th, Daniel Austin 21st, James Gold 23rd, Alfie Davies 28th, and Samuel Belcher 31st. C&V Senior Boys team finished 2nd. 

Senior Girls Cardiff & Vale (C&V) had no runners in the top 6 or 8 places, that were dominated by North East Wales and Dyfed runners, with one Glamorgan Valleys runner in 3rd place.

C&V Senior girls won team race with good packing, Seren Rayment 11th, Ellie Robinson 12th, Elin Williams 15th, Carys Bill 16th, Sara Sturgess 17th, and Caitlin Chapman 22nd. C&V Girls team finished 1st.

Middle Boys race. Ben Reynold (Glamorgan Valleys) was 2nd, Lloyd Sheppard 3rd (SEW) Cardiff Athletics runner, was 2nd at Pontypool. Jacob Reynolds (GV) 7th has a good chance of SIAB selection. C&V Middle Boys team finished 4th.

Middle Girls race. won by Samia Jones (Eryri) who led from the start. A good 2nd place by Mollis Lyons 2nd, and Nia Clatworthy 5th, for automatic SIAB selection. Mia Goddard 7th will have to wait for selection.

C&V Girls team. Molly Lyons 2nd, Alana Hill 4th, Fiona Bostock 6th, Mia Goddard 7th, Aimee Callow 9th, and Bethan Meyrick 14th. C&V taem finished 1st. 

Junior Boys race. C&V Osian Tyrrell 3rd led his team home, with Charlie Hurdman 11th, Henry Spencer 12th, Loui Camilleri 13th, Ifan Sion 15th and Ben Farrell 20th. Junior Boys team 1st.

Junior Girls race. C&V team was led home by Gwenno Goode who won race by 15secs. Erin Andrews 4th, Evie Watkins 5th,  Beth Hardman 10th, Manon Pearce 11th and Lola Osmond 16th. C&V Junior Girls team finished 1st.

C&V Year 7 Boys team Led home by Tom Weston 16th, Dafydd Ball 19th, Nathan Hill 20th, Kobe Beltran 21st, Rhys Ruttley 22nd and Charles Berkley-Smith 23rd. C&V Year 7 team finished 3rd.

C&V Year 7 Girls team were led home by Kate Dunglinson 2nd. Iona Roderick 4th, Mali Macduff 6th, Hollie Lewis 12th, Alice Davies 20th, and Neve Jones 30th. C&V Year 7 Girls team finished 1st.

Overall team results. Cardiff and the Vale team finished 1st 114pts, from Dyfed 2nd 104pts, South East Wales 3rd 97pts.
