Junior League team is top

Cardiff's Welsh Under 15 League team rounded off this year's series to come top of the league. Newport were second with Hereford third and these clubs accompany Cardiff to the Cup Final at Brecon on 23 August.

With the weather kind for a change, Cardiff scored well throughout the match and produced 12 individual event winners, including a clean sweep of first, second and third in the under 15 boys 80m Hurdles. Newcomer to athletics, Conor Kidner won the under 13 boys' 100m, 200m and long jump, a feat matched by Ffion Boddily who won the under 15 girls' 100m, long jump and high jump..

The team positions at the end of the four round series were:

1. Cardiff (29 points);  2. Newport (28);  3. Hereford (27);  4. Cwmbran (20);  5. Aberdare (16);  6. Chepstow (12);  7. Rhondda (7);  8. Rhymney Valley (4).

Cardiff's individual event winners were:

Under 11 (boys):  Deio Hughes (Shot put).

Under 13 (girls):  Sophie Tipping (1500m).

Under 13 (boys):  Conor Kidner (100m, 200m, Long Jump); 

Under 15 (girls):  Ffion Boddily (100m, High Jump, Long Jump);  Megan Clarke (75m Hurdles);  Sally Nicholas (Pole Vault);

Under 15 (boys):  Ben Pearse (80m Hurdles);  Felix Iacono (High Jump).
