David Guest stars in France

Wednesday 10 March 2010

David Guest, who competes for Cardiff AAC's British League team as a higher competition athlete (he is first claim to Bridgend), was a convincing winner of the indoor heptathlon during a combined events international between Britain and France in Bombas, France last weekend 6th and 7th March. David set 5 personal best peformances and equalled a sixth in setting a new personal score of 5,793 points for the seven events.

His new PBs were: 60m - 7.05;  60mH - 8.06;  high jump - 2.02m;  pole vault - 4.75m;  shot put - 14.03m.

He equalled his existing PB of 7.33m in the long jump.

David, who is still only 18, pushed into second place France's Kevin Mayer, also 18, who was the IAAF World Youth champion in 2009. Mayer scored 5,668 points.

The British team won the overall team competition.

2010 will see the IAAF Junior Championships in Moncton, Canada and, with such a good start to the year, David's prospects of doing well must be high.

We wish him every success.
