Cardiff Athletics T&F Teams

Monday 1 July 2019

In the last week of June Cardiff Athletics teams were out in force at different venues and age groups.

YDL (Lower Age groups) Yate 23rd June

Our YDL team U15/U13 had a tough match finishing 4th of 6 teams. Cardiff team finished 4th after 3 matches. Results  showed we lost points due to lack of officials, and was weak in field events. On the track, team scored more points than the other teams. A new club record was broken by the girls in the 4x300 with 2.58.60 breaking the current record (2016) by 0.10 tenths of a second. Club records are not easily broken. Team: Jemima Robinson: Francesca Morgan: Sophie Evans: Evie Watkins, well done girls, and to ALL who took part in Cardiff team.

Welsh Junior League Aberdare Sunday 29th June.

On a very warm, humid and windy day our WJL team of U11/U13/U15 produced an out standing result winning the match on the day by 129pts, and winning (East League overall) after 3 rounds, qualifing for WJL Cup Final on Sunday 25th August at Swansea. Well done to team managers, officials, athletes, and their parents for supporting their children.

Looking at results many athletes doubled up, with some in 4 events to help their team. One outstanding performance was reported by team manager Alex Jachontow with U11 Jack Evans throwing javelin 33.15m setting a new Welsh Record.

YDL (Upper Age Groups) Cardiff Sunday 30th June.

Another fine team performance by Cardiff's U20/U17 Male and Females athletes in match 3. Many athletes like in WJL team, doubled up, or some, competed in 3/4 events to help team. The team was ably managed by Debbie Bull with Gail Gaskin assisting her. Lily Gaskin was one athlete who did 4 events. The mixed male and female team produced many fine performances on the track and in Field events, with only Team Avon a compositive team beating us into 2nd place in the match. Cardiff's team are 3rd after 3 matches, with 1 round left on Sunday 28th July venue to be confirmed. It was a tough weekend for officials with 2 local athletic league matches competitions taking place.

There were many fine athletic performances on Track and in the Field  events. One Bethany Gold u17 in 1500 s/c had a bad fall over barrier after finish line, she got up and carried on with momentum gone and carrying shock of fall. Reaching the water jump that had 2 Cardiff runners Rhi Jones U20W and U17W Lili Jones were struggling to get out of the water. Bethany changed direction and slipped over barrier going head first into water, and banging her trailing leg against the concrete surrounding the water, she came up head first, clambered out of water to finish the race, obviously hurt and upset. Next day she was jogging around on grass.
