BAL Friday 9 August 2019

Last Saturday match 4 of our Premier League mens team was held in Birmingham. Our team finished last in match, and 8th in final league position. The team had the lowest team points after 4 matches. Now the season is over, the club needs to reflect on reasons why we were relegated. The BAL team is weak in a number of positions that in short term, recruitment via higher claim athletes will help, in longer term, development of our younger athletes in team, together with recruitment of coaches, particulary in technical events. Clashes with other events did not help our BAL team. Many BAL athletes were selected for competitions abroad, or events in UK that clashed with BAL dates. In Birmingham, our team had no athletes in 6 events, and 3 events with no B athletes. Congratulations to all athletes who turned out for our BAL team during the 2019 season.

Last Sunday the 4th Youth Development meeting took place at Yate for upper age groups (17/20). The teem was weaken by absentees due to holidays etc. A shooting meeting was taking place near track that cause sprinters to fault start. Although they were allowed to start again, the team points were not taken into account for the match. A club protest has been made as the fault start was not the athletes fault. Many athletes covered a number of events to help team match points.

Cardiff Throws 6 Thursday 4 July 2019

Arrived at stadium 6.45pm for our club's monthly meeting on Tuesday evening. Academy was well under way, noticed football coaches were on grass with balls etc. Carried on walking to throwing area at back of stadium. Was surprised by number of athletes, coaches and officials and WA's staff present, lovelly weather and it's an invitation on line only event. T&F is my first interest, closely followed by XC and Road. Immediately got involved in discussion with Adrian Palmer who was observing the performances. One important point he made was that the club should take interest in these events, can see a number of reasons why this should happen. A number of pb performances were achieved. Brett Morse threw 55.48m, good practce for BAL match on Saturday. See Cardiff's throwers results below.

The WJC were held in Wrexham last Saturday and Sunday. The weather dry and breezy. Sunday sun, and some rain showers with a strong breeze against runners running into finish line. There was a huge amount of tree pollen being blown off the trees onto the track, making it look like snow it so thick on the grass. The journey from South Wales (by road), to Wrexham is not an easy drive, athletes who stayed over night before their events, had advantage over those who didn't, or could not.

Cardiff Athletics athletes won 40 medals in all age groups i.e. U13/U15/U17/U20 male and female. Analysing where medals were won showed, Endurance 16, Field 14 and Sprints 10.
