Medals for miles Saturday 30 September 2017

Tom Marshall 2017

The Welsh Athletics road mile championships were held today, prior to tomorrow's Cardiff half marathon and attracted enthusiastic runners and spectators.

The first event of the day was the under 11 girls' mile and victory went to Cardiff's Alice Davies with Millie Gold third. Most of the other races saw Cardiff athletes in the first three and Tom Marshall retained his senior men's title, breaking his own course record with a time of 4:15.00, with Ieuan Thomas second and Sam Blake fourth.

Cross Country beckons Thursday 21 September 2017

With the track season over, cross country gets going again, with the popular Gwent League's first round fixture in Cardiff on Saturday, 14th October; only three weeks away.

This year, the important Cardiff edition of the UK Cross Challenge series will be combined with the Gwent League in Cardiff so it should be a great start to the season.

Curtis back with a bang Tuesday 19 September 2017

Curtis Mathews 2014

After leaving athletics for rugby a couple of years ago, decathlete Curtis Mathews missed the challenge of the ten events and is now back and on form, having the ambition to represent Wales in the next Commonwealth Games.

As one of the success stories of the Glasgow Games in 2014, when he produced no fewer than six personal bests for eighth place, Curtis has now surpassed that with a new personal best score of 7,500, equalling the B qualification standard and improving his own club record.

Welsh road medals Sunday 17 September 2017

WA Road relays 2017 u15

The Welsh road relay championships were held yesterday at Pembrey Country Park and Cardiff took medals in most of the races, including gold in the under 15 boys and under 11 girls.

Congratulations to everyone who raced today and a special thank you to those runners who still competed either as individuals or as part of an incomplete team, due to a large number of late withdrawals.

PBs for throwers Thursday 7 September 2017

The third Cardiff AAC Young Throwers Invitational and most successful competition to date took place at Cardiff International Sports Campus on Tuesday evening, 5th September.

No fewer than nine new personal bests were achieved by the competing athletes in the two disciplines, hammer and discus. Of particular note was Ethan Witchell’s 24.83m throw in the discus which ranks him as No.1 in Wales and No.11 in the UK, a fantastic achievement considering this is only his first year as an U13.

YDL final Monday 4 September 2017

A severely depleted Cardiff team travelled to the final of the UK Youth Development League (upper age group) in Birmingham yesterday and, not surprisingly, finished in eighth place of eight teams.

The team depended on some excellent performances from the under 17 athletes to compensate for an almost absent contingent of under 20s and Jay Morse was awarded the Norma Blaine Award as the male athlete of the match. And Lana Culliford set a new under 20 club record of 64.64 for the 400m hurdles.
