Welsh Junior League team Monday 31 May 2010

Please can any junior boys (under11, under 13 and under 15) who wish to compete in Newport next Sunday, 6th June, please contact Kay Chapman asap on 07749 716151 so they can be selected. This is because boy's team manager Mark Muller will be unavailable for this match. Next Sunday's match will be the third in this year's series and follows a very successful outing to Hereford on 22 May when the team cames first and heads the league.

Sizzling run from Christian Sunday 30 May 2010

 Christian Malcolm

Cardiff star Christian Malcolm was clocked at 10.15 in winning his semi final of the 100m at today's UK Inter Counties championships in Bedford. Unfortunately, the wind speed was over the limit at 6.7 m/sec (yes, 6.7) but this should not detract from his performance. UK Athletics' statistician and athletics expert Ian Hodge, who saw the race, believes that Christian is "80% back to his best form".

Lucozade refreshes? Saturday 29 May 2010


Cardiff AAC has been selected as one of only two Welsh clubs to benefit from a specialist advice programme being funded by Lucozade Sport, one of UK Athletics’ sponsors. Matt Furber, a sports scientist specialising in nutrition and performance analysis, will be running a series of consultations over the next twelve months that can benefit the club’s athletes and coaches.

Captains lead by example Monday 24 May 2010

Cardiff were clear winners in the second round of the National Junior League, held at Leamington Spa yesterday, Sunday 23 May. Boys' captain Tom Knight won both the 100m and the 200m while girls' captain Ayla Phillips competed in four events.

Matt Collins and Peter Ryder

Cardiff AAC duo Matt Collins & Pete Ryder (pictured) made sure that the Club was well represented in the first SSAFA 5k Road race of 2010, held in Cardiff last Wednesday, 19th May. Matt was narrowly beaten by winner Daren Hiscox of Bridgend with Pete coming home fourth with a superb run that earned him a personal best time of 15:47, smashing his old PB.

FULL RESULTS NOW IN. Cardiff's YAL team made a successful trip to Rugby last Sunday, 16th May, taking first place ahead of Solihull and Telford. This gives the team a realistic goal of competing in the regional final at Alexander Stadium in Birmingham on 1st August.

Championship closing dates Thursday 20 May 2010

The first closing date for entry to this year's Welsh championships is only a week away, next Thursday, 27 May. These championships, to be held in Cardiff, are for Senior men and women and under 13 and under 15 boys and girls. The senior championships will count as trials for the Welsh Commonwealth Games team.

Peter Morris & Elliot Slade

Cardiff & the Vale of Glamorgan Schools Athletics Association recently held its annual Cross-Country Presentation Evening and three Cardiff members scooped the major trophies. Pictured being presented with his by Mr Peter Morris is Elliot Slade who received the Birchgrove Harriers cup for the outstanding boy. Bethan Daw received the Stanwell Old Girls Cup as the outstanding girl and Lauren Regan the Denys Gumbley Shield for long service.

Cardiff's young athletes' league team travels to Rugby on Sunday for the second round match in this year's series. After gaining promotion with ease last year, the team made a solid start in the first round match at Cheltenham on 2nd May, coming second to home based team Cheltenham, with Halesowen third.

New challenge for Matt Saturday 8 May 2010

Matt Elias

Cardiff athlete and Commonwealth medallist Matt Elias has joined Welsh Athletics in a part-time capacity to help support the development of the sport in both clubs and schools. Matt is combining this part-time job with training to achieve his ambition of making a fourth appearance at a Commonwealth Games in a Welsh vest. He also hopes to make the British team for the European Championships, perhaps teaming up with fellow Cardiff member Rhys Williams.
