YDL Junior team come-back

After missing out on an automatic spot in the regional final, Cardiff's UK Youth Development League (lower age group) team was forced to compete to retain its place in next season's Midlands Premier Division at a promotion match in Swindon yesterday.

Led by a powerful under 15 squad, Cardiff comfortably won the match to regain its place and the club, athletes and team managers can breathe again.

The corrected match result was:

Cardiff's event winners were:

Under 15 boys: Louis Thorne (200m A); Philip Grundy (200m B); Jacob Reynolds (800m A); Ben Hillman (80m hurdles A); Louis Rochfort-Sugar (80m hurdles B); Ben Vincent (long jump A); Harry Owen (long jump B); Ben Henson (high jump B & javelin A); Lloyd Clarke (discus A & hammer B & javelin B); Evan Morgan (hammer A & discus B); 4x100m relay; 4x300m relay.

Under 15 girls: Emmanuella Kone (100m A & hammer B); Ffion Jones (200m A); Alana Lea (300m A); Nia Clatworthy (1500m A); Megan Friedli (1500m B); Cassey Grimwade (discus A & hammer A); 4x100m relay.

Under 13 boys: Henry Spencer (800m A); Ben Hughes (800m B); Ben Macey (1500m A); Elis Finlayson (1500m B); Ethan Witchell (shot put A).

Under 13 girls: Jemima Robinson (1200m A).

Congratulations to all who contributed to this important result yesterday, especially those athletes who covered events for the points and to the team managers who supported the team through the season.
