World best in Cardiff

Sunday 13 August 2017

Despite the competing attraction of world championship athletics on television, 129 runners turned up at the Cardiff International Sports Campus yesterday for the Night of Endurance, which concluded the 2017 Summer series.

With two 10k races and 6 over a mile, the highlight was the setting of a world best time for a mile in the 45-50 age category by former GB international athlete Anthony Whiteman who had travelled to Cardiff specially for the attempt. Paced for the first two and a half laps by James Thie, Whiteman crossed the line in 4:10.00. The existing world best time was 4:16.09.

Numerous Cardiff athletes took part, some attempting the 10k for the first time. The second 10k race was the official Welsh championship and Dan Nash and Muktar Farhan finished second and third respectively; although they do not qualify for Welsh championship status.

The results from yesterday can be seen HERE and those of the summer series as a whole can be seen HERE.
