Women's team secure

Wednesday 5 August 2009

Grangemouth stadium, Glasgow, was the venue for the third and final round of the UK Women's league series. Cardiff, needing a solid performance to safeguard the team's place in division 2, came fifth on the day and also 5th over the series. Emma Peters and Emily Brown were Cardiff's only individual winners but, with athletes covering multiple events, the team was safe.

Emma Peters won the 100m hurdles B, was third in the 400m hurdles A, 5th in the high jump B and ran in both relays. The only other winner, Emily Brown took the 2000m S/c as well as competing in the 400m hurdles B and the triple jump B where she placed second.

A willingness to compete in several events ensured that the points kept adding up and mention needs to be made of Imogen Miles (100m, javelin, long jump and 4 x 100m), Ayla Phillips (shot, discus and hammer), Hannah Williams (100m, 200m, triple jump and 4 x 100m) and others. Sisters Hannah and Jessica Abrahams each took second place in the pole vault A and B respectively.

Team manager Peter Lane was relieved that the team had maintained its position and was full of praise for the efforts of those that made the long trip to Glasgow.
