Silver indoors for Ben

Cardiff's all-rounder Ben Hillman was the best performing Welsh athlete at the Schools Combined Events international, held at the Emirates Indoor Arena in Glasgow on Friday last, 10th November, taking the silver medal in the under 16 boys' category, a mere four points behind the winner.

Every Cardiff athlete produced at least one personal best performance, with Ben leading the way with PBs in four of his five events.

Ben Hillman's individual perfortmances were: 60m hurdles - 8.76; long jump - 6.35m (pb); 200m - 23.91 (pb); shot put - 11.23m (pb); 800m - 2:05.49 (pb); total score 3,399.

Also in the under 16 event was Ben Henson, who finished 14th with a score of 2,714, including a personal best 60m hurdles and shot put.

The boys' team captain was Harri Wheeler-Sexton, who was 8th in the over 16 boys' age group with a score of 3,317, including PBs in the shot put and 200m. Harvey Reynolds was 13th (PBs in long jump and 800m) and Tom Britt was 15th (PB 60m hurdles).

In the under 16 girls' competition, Gabby Dickinson was 11th with a score of 3,002 and PB in the 800m.

On Saturday last (11th), Jake Heyward was in Denmark for an international cross country, finishing fifth of the 56 finishers in the 6k junior age category race despite finding the heavy conditions not to his liking.
