Senior Women win again

Cardiff's UK Women's League team recorded a decisive win in their second round match at Bedford yesterday, Saturday 3rd July. Pictured is Imogen Miles receiving her athlete of the match award from former team manager John Penny. Imogen competed in three individual events plus a relay.

With a 48 point victory over second placed Enfield, Cardiff now has a three point lead in the league standings with one fixture to come.

Whereas Cardiff's men dominated the track events in their match yesterday, the ladies dominated the field events with five double (A & B) wins in the high jump, pole vault, long jump, triple jump and shot put, plus an A string win in the javelin.

Cardiff's individual winners were:

Gemma Leahy (3000m B);  Emily Brown (2000m s/c);  Serita Shone (high jump A and shot put B);  Imogen Miles (high jump B, long jump B & triple jump B);  Jess Abrahams (pole vault A);  Bryony Raine (pole vault B);  Rhiannon Yates (long jump A);  Sara Barry (triple jump A);  Sarah Benson (shot put A);  Lianne Clarke (javelin A).

Cardiff also won the 4x100m relay.

The match result was:

1. Cardiff (230 match points);  2. Enfield & Haringey (182);  3. Bedford County (173);  4. Milton Keynes (171);  5. Swansea (165);  6. Wigan & District (149);  7. Southampton (111);  8. Liverpool (60).

The league standing after two rounds is:

1. Cardiff (16 league points);  2. Enfield & Haringey (13);  3. Swansea (11);  4. Bedford (11);  5. Milton Keynes (7);  6. Wigan (6);  7. Southampton (6);  8. Liverpool (2).

With one more round to come, in Liverpool on 31 July, the Cardiff team is on track for promotion back to Division 1.
