Awards for Cardiff members

Cardiff & the Vale of Glamorgan Schools Athletics Association recently held its annual Cross-Country Presentation Evening and three Cardiff members scooped the major trophies. Pictured being presented with his by Mr Peter Morris is Elliot Slade who received the Birchgrove Harriers cup for the outstanding boy. Bethan Daw received the Stanwell Old Girls Cup as the outstanding girl and Lauren Regan the Denys Gumbley Shield for long service.

Elliot, who is a year 10 student at Bishop of Llandaff school in Cardiff won all 3 races in the senior cross country league, running against boys who were up to three years older, and took the under 17 championship title.  He was the first Cardiff & the Vale Schools finisher in the under 17 men’s race at the 2010 McCain’s Cardiff Cross Challenge in January, and led the district to its first team win in this section of the schools’ invitation inter county match for many years.

Bethan, a year 11 student at St Cyres school, Penarth, was the leading points scorer in the senior cross country league and claimed the u17 championship title. Finishing in the first eight in the Welsh Schools championships, she represented Welsh Schools in the u17 race at the AVIVA schools international held in Truro in March.

Lauren, currently completing her A level studies at St David’s College, was awarded the long service shield for her consistent support of schools cross country, having competed regularly in the Cardiff & the Vale Schools’ league for the last seven years and represented the district at the January Schools Inter-Counties and at the Welsh schools national championships for six years.
