Road Racing

Monday 18 February 2019

A number of Welsh endurance athletes went to Spain for WWT. Following the camp a number took part in the popular International Bracelona Half Marathon on the 10th February. Cardiff's Charlotte Arter continued her out standing racing results gained in 2018 and has started 2019 with an out standing result in Barcelona. Her time for the Half Marathon was 69.41 taking her to top of UK Half Marathon ranking list. Her time was a Welsh record for the distance, and of course is a new best club time.

In same race, Cardiff's Clara Evans also achieved a personal best Half Marathon time of 72.49. Jennifer Nesbitt also in same race finished Half Marathon with 73.14. All three runners, were part of the Welsh squad on the WWT camp.

On the same date 10th February in cold, wet, and windy conditions in the Llanelli Half Marathon. Cardiif's Matt Clowes won the the race in 66.44. His best Half Marathon time is (63.26), hence weather affected runners times. Matt was not on Welsh WWT camp, although living in Wales, Matt has retained his English qualification.

Lucy Marland also in same race was 23rd, achieved her best time for Half Marathon in 80.22. Lucy lost a lot of time in 2018 through injury, and has been improving her fitness, since her return to training.

Carys Hughes was 46th in 83.53. her best time is (81.09).

The Half Marathon distance is popular with runners, and despite the poor weather conditions (to be expected in winter conditions in February) there was 1500 runners recorded in the Llanelli Half Marathon results.

International Armagh 5km road race held in Northern Ireland on the 14th February.

Cardiff's Ieuan Thomas was 21st in 14.14, Mattie Edwards was 53rd in 14.32. James Hunt was 71st in 14.43.  Elliot Richards was 134th in 15.11. Steve Morris was 140th in 15.15.

In the 3km race James Thie (M40) was 4th in 8.50.

The evening race was held in mild and little wind, thus good racing conditions leading to very fast road 5km times with the winning time of 13.43 with the first 12 runners were under 14mins.

A total of 204 runners finished the 5km race, and 126 entries were in the 3km race.
