Aled Davies 2012

Cardiff's Aled Davies is in the form of his life and has set two more world records in the last fortnight.

Currently training and competing in the USA with coach Ryan Spencer Jones, on 8th April Aled smashed his own record for the F42 shot put with a throw of 17.40m.

He followed this up on Saturday last, 22nd April, by setting a new world standard of 54.85m in the F42 discus.

Readers of Athletics Weekly may have spotted an interesting article a few weeks ago that offered helpful advice to parents of young athletes.

Written by a sports psychologist, many of the points made are relevant to clubs such as ours, especially as they relate to the younger members so we thought it would be a good idea to reproduce the article in full.

Danni takes over as treasurer Friday 14 April 2017

Danni Mill

Danni Mill has now officially taken up her position as treasurer of the club. She was formally elected at the AGM last November but could not actually start until now as she was working away from Cardiff for six months, having taken up a new position with one of the country's leading supermarkets.

Danni is a qualified accountant who joined the club as an athlete and has taken an interest in coaching, especially younger children. With Hannah Prettty, she developed the concept of forming an Academy within the club, which she and Hannah are leading and which has gone from strength to strength.

Men & women in top ten Sunday 9 April 2017

On a glorious day with clear blue skies and little wind, Cardiff's senior men's and women's road relay teams both finished in the top ten in the national twelve and six stage relays at Sutton Park yesterday, 8th April.

The women's team finished in seventh place while the men's team ended in tenth after leading the field for the first five stages.

For those who use the Cardiff International Sports Campus more than once a week, it is worth considering a season ticket, now available.

For juniors aged 16 and under, the cost is £60 for six months or £120 for a full year. For those over 16, six months cost £105 and 12 months £210. Daily admission charges are currently £2.10 and £4.20 respectively.

Club record for Ffion Thursday 6 April 2017

Ffion Palmer 2015

In her first competition of the year, at the Bath Field Events Fest on Sunday last, 2nd April, Ffion Palmer (17) set a new senior women's record in the Hammer Throw with a distance of 48.92m, improving Beth Sewell's record of 47.82 set in 2010.

Ffion had been hoping for 50m plus so this record is likely to be improved again this year.


Also in Bath, brother Jac opened his season with 61.50m with the senior hammer and Bethan Gammon was close to her best with 44.37m, also in the hammer throw.

Successes in the Bay Sunday 2 April 2017

Bay 10k 2017

Cardiff athletes were to the fore in the Cardiff & Vale College Cardiff Bay 10k and 2k road races today. On a sunny day, with spectators lining the course, Cardiff athletes dominated the senior and junior events.

Making her debut for Cardiff, Clara Evans was a clear winner of the women's 10k while Matthew Clowes was second in the men's race behind GB international Dewi Griffiths.

Break through for Ieuan Saturday 1 April 2017

Cardiff's Ieuan Thomas registered a big personal improvement over 3000m steeplechase when he was timed at 8m.33.68 at the Stanford Invitational held at Stanford University, USA, yesterday, 31st March.

A member of James Thie's coaching group, Ieuan's time also achieves the A standard (8:35.00) set by Welsh Athletics for consideration for the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia in 2018.

With cross country over and the start of Summer Time, a new track and field season is upon us.

The first rounds of the young athletes leagues are only a few weeks away and the popular annual open meetings in Yeovil this weekend will provide a chance to try out summer form.

Another win for Jake Wednesday 22 March 2017


At the Welsh Schools cross country championships held in Brecon on Saturday last, 18th March, Jake Heyward took his fourth championship title when he won the senior boys' age group in a rare cross country outing for the reigning European under 18 1500m champion.

Plenty of Cardiff AAC athletes were representing their schools and, amongst the best performers, were Jemima Robinson (second in the year 7 girls'race), Naomi Reid (third senior girls), Carys Bill (third middle girls) and Ben Macey (third year 7 boys).
