Cardiff 1-2 Friday 16 June 2017

Tom Marshall

Hot on the heels of their exploits at the Welsh championships last Saturday, Tom Marshall (Welsh silver at 800m) and Rowan Axe (gold at 1500m) travelled to Watford on Wednesday evening, looking for fast times over 1500m. And, wow, did they get them!

Tom won the 1500m A race in a career best time of 3:37.62 with Rowan a close second in a big personal best of 3:38.12. These times take them respectively to third and fifth on the all-time best Welsh lists and to eighth and ninth on the current UK rankings. They are also both within the A standard qualification to be considered for the Welsh team at the Commonwealth Games.

Open meeting a success Friday 16 June 2017

Open Mtg June 17

Around 130 young athletes, full of enthusiasm, were at the Cardiff AAC stadium last Sunday to take part in the open meeting organised by the Cardiff Academy.

A well chosen series of events occupied a few hours of a pleasant Sunday morning, producing good competition and results.

Bethan walks it Sunday 11 June 2017

Bethan Davies 2015

One of the class acts at yesterday's Welsh Championships, held in Cardiff, was Bethan Davies' victory in the 3000m walk. Having led from the start, GB international Bethan won easily but just missed out on a new Welsh and personal record. Her winning time of 12:26.45 is by far the best time in the UK this year.

On a very successful day for Cardiff AAC, club athletes took medals (usually gold) in nearly all the men's championship events and in many of the women's, with clean sweeps in the men's 100m and the women's high jump.

Mark Gold 2017

Cardiff AAC is pleased to announce the appointment of Mark Gold as administrator.

Mark has recently retired from the Army with the rank of Captain after a distiguished career, having seen active service in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kosovo and elsewhere. He has also received the George Medal for bravery which was presented to him by HM The Queen.

Steve and Aled in Para team Thursday 8 June 2017

Aled Davies 2012

Cardiff's Steve Morris and Aled Davies have both been included in the Great Britain team for the World Para Athletics Championships to be held in London later this year.

Steve and Aled are both experienced Olympic athletes and represented Great Britain in the Rio Games last year. Aled is, of course, the world record holder in F42 shot put and discus and will contest both events in London, where he will be the favourite.

After finishing fourth in their first round fixture, Cardiff's UK Women's Athletic League team improved to second place in the second round, held in Bedford on Saturday last, 3rd June.

The team is in striking distance of promotion to the premier division and a win in the third and final round would probably do it.

Tough of the track Sunday 4 June 2017

Carwyn Jones and Matt Clowes 2017

After winning the first match of the 2017 series, Cardiff's BAL team was missing several of its top points scorers for the second round in Swansea yesterday but still managed third place.

Amongst the heroes of the day, Matt Clowes stood out. After a dominant run to win the 1500m, he was back on the track a mere 15 minutes later to contest the 5,000 along with team mate Carwyn Jones. What an athlete!

After coming second in the first round fixture, Cardiff's YDL (upper age group) team came within a whisker of winning the second round match in Cheltenham yesterday, finishing second to composite team Team Avon by a mere half a point.

That's better Sunday 28 May 2017

Ben Hillman 2017

After a gloriously hot and sunny day (Friday) Saturday at the Cardiff stadium was cold, windy and occasionally rainy. Nevertheless, there was a better turnout of Cardiff athletes, especially from the Academy (thank you Danni and Hannah) for the second round of the Welsh Junior League (East Wales).

Once again, it was a battle between Cardiff AAC and its local rivals, with Cardiff finishing second to Cardiff Archers but well ahead of the other participating clubs.
