A great night Sunday 13 September 2009

Presentation Evening 2009

The club's annual awards evening, held last night, was a great success with a record attendance. Special guests Christian Malcolm, Matt Elias, Joe Thomas and Simon Lawson were on hand to present the awards and inspire the next generation of young stars. And there was plenty of young talent there to receive due recognition of their achievements in 2009.

Richie is top of the cops Saturday 12 September 2009

Richard Gardiner

He juggles a life on the track with a life on the beat – and he’s just been named South Wales’ top cop. Cardiff AAC's Ritchie Gardiner has high hopes of qualifying for the 2010 Commonwealth Games after being ranked Wales’ best marathon runner, and the fifth best in Britain. But the popular community sergeant has already won top honours closer to home for his sterling work in Merthyr and Rhondda Cynon Taf. He was named Police Officer of the Year by South Wales Police for his crime-busting efforts to tackle antisocial behaviour, off-road motorcycling and the problem of grassfires. He has also increased community engagement with hard-to-reach groups. Sgt Gardiner said: “I was so shocked to receive this award. It means such a lot to me.

Mike Johnson off to Prague Friday 11 September 2009

Mike Johnson

Cardiff's Mike Johnson represents Wales in the Prague International 10k Road Race this Saturday. Mike is part of the strongest Welsh Road Team for some years, with all four men having run sub 30 minutes for the distance and will take confidence from his superb third place in the Cardiff 10k last Sunday, where his fitness showed as he left the chasing group in the final seconds.

Mike Johnson third Monday 7 September 2009

Cardiff 10k 2010

Cardiff's Mike Johnson (0003), running for the Welsh team, took third place in yesterday's Cardiff 10k. The race was won by Burundi born Jean Ndaysinga with Tom Humphries second, a reversal of their respective positions in last year's race. Both athletes were representing the Midlands area. There was plenty of Cardiff interest in the race, with perhaps the most impressive performance coming from Tom Marshall (0005) who knocked 72 seconds off his personal best to clock 30:12 and take sixth place.

Road takes centre stage Friday 4 September 2009

Nat Lane

Two important road races take place on Sunday next, 6th September. Cardiff sees the 25th running of the Cardiff 10k while the Bristol Half Marathon takes place across the Severn Bridge. Cardiff AAC runners will be contesting both events with Nat Lane (pictured), Richie Gardner and Simon Lawson heading for Bristol while Mike Johnson, Tom Marshall and Matt Colins will be running for Wales in Cardiff.

Cardiff athletes shine Thursday 3 September 2009

Jamaul Whyte

In weather conditions that were the worst experienced for this event, Cardiff athletes scored heavily for the South Wales team that won the Welsh Inter Regional Championships last Sunday, 30 August, in Swansea. South Wales won narrowly from West Wales with East Wales third and North Wales fourth. Probably the best performances of the day came from David Guest who competes for the Cardiff BAL team as a higher competition athlete. David set a new championship record in the Under 20 long jump with 7.21m and also won the high jump with 1.95m both excellent performances in the circumstances.

Joe best of Brits Monday 31 August 2009

Joe Thomas

Cardiff's 21 year old Joe Thomas saw off the British opposition, including World Championship semi finalist Michael Rimmer, in taking a fine third place in the British Grand Prix at Gateshead today. Wearing his distinctive Cardiff vest, Joe also convincingly beat World's final eighth placer Marcin Lewandowski and was narrowly beaten in the dash to the finish line by winner Nick Simmonds (6th in the World's final). In blustery conditions, Joe's time was a great 1:47.44 against Symmonds' 1:47.30 and second placed, Kenyan Geoffrey Reno's 1:47.43.
