Cardiff juniors triumph Sunday 11 April 2010

Welsh Road Relays U17 girls

On a very sunny but windy day at the Llandow race circuit, Cardiff 's athletes dominated the junior age groups in the Welsh road relay championships earlier today. Pride of place goes to the under 13 boys', under 15 boys' and under 17 ladies' teams (pictured) for taking the gold medals.

Former club captain Debbie Rees gave birth to a baby boy, Finlay James, on Wednesday, 7th April. Congratulations to Debbie and James.

Golds and silver for Dic Friday 2 April 2010

Dic Evans

Cardiff AAC’s Dic Evans (pictured winning the half marathon) has recently returned from Canada where he took gold and silver medals in the World Masters championships. Representing Great Britain and running in the 60-65 age category, Dic (a youthful 63) took first place in the half marathon, five days after taking silver in the cross country behind Roger Price of the USA.

Alex Hains

The Welsh team selected to contest the home countries cross international at Mansfield on Saturday next, March 27th, includes a Cardiff AAC athlete in each age group. Welsh champion and February's athlete of the month Alex Hains (pictured) competes for the senior men, whilst Emily Brown is in the senior women's team and Adam Bitchell and Vicky Jackson make the junior men's and junior women's teams respectively.

Success at Atlantic College Monday 22 March 2010

Richie Gardiner

Cardiff AAC were well represented in the Atlantic College 10k yesterday, Sunday 21 March. The race begins in the college grounds, near to St Donats Castle and, with the weather warm and sunny, it felt like the first race of spring. Marathon man Richie Gardiner won comfortably in 31:10 after pushing on from the chasing group and running much of the race on his own.

Simon Lawson bombshell Friday 12 March 2010

Simon Lawson

In a shock announcement, Simon Lawson, who will be 20 later this month, has quit athletics despite having won the European Junior championship 10,000m silver medal last year and seeming to have a successful career ahead of him. Although now recovered from injury, Simon has blamed UK Athletics' and Welsh Athletics' lack of support for his disillusionment with the sport.

David Guest stars in France Wednesday 10 March 2010

David Guest

David Guest, who competes for Cardiff AAC's British League team as a higher competition athlete (he is first claim to Bridgend), was a convincing winner of the indoor heptathlon during a combined events international between Britain and France in Bombas, France last weekend 6th and 7th March. David set 5 personal best peformances and equalled a sixth in setting a new personal score of 5,793 points for the seven events.

Gwent Lg 2010 U15

The season's Gwent League series ended at Blaise Castle, Bristol on Saturday last, 6th March, and saw further excellent performances from Cardiff AAC juniors. The under 13 boys and under 20 ladies finished as overall league champions, the under 17 girls were second and the under 15 boys third. Mike Ward produced another great run to become the overall individual League under 15 champion.

Five Cardiff AAC athletes have been selected for the Welsh Schools' team to take part in the schools' cross country international in Truro, Cornwall on 27th March. Jack Gooch, winner of last weekend's Welsh Schools' championship, junior boys, was an automatic choice for the international team and will be joined by four Cardiff clubmates.
