Christmas closure dates Friday 15 December 2017


The Cardiff International Sports Campus will close for the Christmas and New Year break at 10pm on Thursday 21st December and will re-open on Tuesday 2nd January. Unlike previous years, the stadium will be closed for the whole period.

The club will be fully back to normal on Monday, 8th January when the Academy will restart and the canteen will re-open.

Tom Marshall EXCH 2017

Making his Great Britain debut, Cardiff's Tom Marshall anchored the GB team to victory in the first edition of the mixed relay at the European Cross Country Championships in Somerin, Slovakia, today.

Taking over on the fourth and final leg with a 4 seconds advantage, Tom immediately put the pressure on the chasing Czech star and increased the gap; and although the silver and bronze medallists were closing in the final 400m, Tom held on for a fine win.

James and James win Friday 8 December 2017

Blaise Castle 2015

Cardiff's two James (Hunt and Vincent) led the fields home in their respective races at the third round of the Gwent Cross Country League, held at Pembrey Country Park on Sunday last, 3rd December.

James Hunt was a clear winner, by nearly half a minute, of the senior men's race while James Vincent won the under 20 race by a similar margin. James Hunt was also the winner of the under 23 category.

Cardiff's Peter Lane was presented with Welsh Athletics Award of Honour during the junior indoor open at NIAC last weekend.

Presented by Welsh Athletics' president Lynette Harries, the Award of Honour is one of the most prestigious made and is in recognition of outstanding service to Welsh Athletics over many years.

A former headmaster, Peter has been involved in the sport for over 35 years and has an impressive record of coaching athletes across all levels of the sport including to GB international.

Jake and Tom in Euro team Tuesday 5 December 2017

Jake Heyward 2017

Cardiff's Tom Marshall has been included in the GB team to contest the European Cross Country championships taking place in Slovakia on Sunday next. He is in the squad for the mixed relay and joins club mate Jake Heyward who qualified as of right for a place in the under 20 team by finishing fourth at the official GB trials in LIverpool.

Jake has shown excellent form over the country and had earlier won the under 20 race at the Cardiff Cross Challenge on 14th October in his first outing of the season.

Rhys Williams

At last night's AGM, Rhys Williams was elected as a Life Member of Cardiff AAC for his outstanding service to the club and to athletics.

As an Olympian and regular GB international, Rhys enjoyed a long and distinguished career and has the unique distinction of having been European 400m hurdles champion at every age level.

Yet more awards Monday 20 November 2017

While Cardiff AAC members were enjoying the club's annual presentation evening in one part of the Cardiff City stadium, the annual Nation Radio Sports Awards ceremonies were taking place in another part of the same stadium.

Cardiff was again successful, the club receiving the Community Club of the Year award and Lucy Marland and Graham Finlayson individual awards.

Once again the club's annual presentation evening, held at the Cardiff City Stadium on Friday last, 17th November, was well attended and recognised individual club members for their achievements during the season.

Presenting the awards was special guest, GB internationsl Ieuan Thomas, who represented Great Britain in the 3000m steeplechase at the 2017 IAAF World CHampionships in London.

Silver indoors for Ben Monday 13 November 2017

Ben Hillman 2017

Cardiff's all-rounder Ben Hillman was the best performing Welsh athlete at the Schools Combined Events international, held at the Emirates Indoor Arena in Glasgow on Friday last, 10th November, taking the silver medal in the under 16 boys' category, a mere four points behind the winner.

Every Cardiff athlete produced at least one personal best performance, with Ben leading the way with PBs in four of his five events.

Second Gwent League Saturday 11 November 2017

Laura Wright 2017

Although the rain held off for most of the races, earlier rain had left the course in Brecon today wet and heavy going, with most of the spectator areas ankle deep in mud.

With fewer athletes turning out than in the first round in Cardiff, nevertheless the club produced some good performances even though the only winner of the day was Laura Wright (pictured) in the under 20 ladies' race.
