Key weekend for teams

Thursday 16 July 2009

Over the next weekend, three of the club teams will be competing in key competitions. The Young Athletes' League team will travel to Swindon on Sunday for the fifth and final round of the season; which will be the promotion decider. The senior men's and women's teams travel to London, bidding for a place in the BAL Golden Jubilee Cup for the first time. Success is on the horizon.

The Young Athletes League team has enjoyed a fantastic season, winning all four of the rounds so far held. They lead the league table and would like to finish their campaign with a clean sweep of wins and promotion back to the Premier Division. On this occasion the team is short of several of its best athletes who will be in Belfast competing for the Welsh Schools team in the annual schools international. Nevertheless, the team is still strong and the absence of some stars gives others the chance to shine.

The BAL Golden Jubilee Cup is a fairly new concept, encompassing only ten events, all completed within 100 minutes. Team Manager James Williams has selected a men's team that he thinks is well capable of winning Saturday's semi final in Yate and progressing to the final. Women's team manager Peter Lane is more cautious but it could well be that we have both men's and women's team in the final which takes place on Saturday 8th August at Copthall Stadium, North London.

We wish all our teams the very best of luck.
