Cross Country beckons

Thursday 21 September 2017

With the track season over, cross country gets going again, with the popular Gwent League's first round fixture in Cardiff on Saturday, 14th October; only three weeks away.

This year, the important Cardiff edition of the UK Cross Challenge series will be combined with the Gwent League in Cardiff so it should be a great start to the season.

Entries for the Gwent League can be made on the day as usual but entries for the Cross Challenge must be made in advance and entries close on 6th October. See the attached leaflet for further details.

Some important cross country dates are as follows:

Gwent League (1): Saturday, 4th October. Llandaff Field , Cardiff
Gwent League (2): Saturday, 11th November, Brecon
Gwent League (3): Sunday 3rd December, Pembrey Country Park
Gwent League (4): Saturday 10th February (to be confirmed), Pontypool
Gwent League (5): Saturday 3rd March, Blaise Castle, Bristol.

Welsh Cross Country relay championships: Saturday 4th November, Monmouth

Welsh inter-regional cross country championships: Saturday 9th December, venue to be confirmed.

For further information and other dates, go to the Gwent League or Welsh Athletics websites.

Cross country is an important part of the athletics year and a vital winter preparation for middle and long distance runners. It is suitable for all ages and abilities and all Cardiff members are encouraged to take part. If you have not tried it before you may be surprised how much fun it can be, even if the weather is not brilliant.
