Club record and title for Jac

Cardiff's Jac Palmer hit top form in Bedford on Sunday to take the gold medal in the hammer throw at the England Athletics under 23 championships. Not only was his winning throw of 65.88m a personal best and club senior record, but he pushed into second place Taylor Campbell who is currently leading the under 23 UK rankings. Jac is lying third in the UK.

Also coming home with a gold medal was Jake Heyward who won a tactical race to take the 1500m title and enhance his selection chances for the European Junior championships.The selection qualifying time is 3:45.00 which should be well within Jake's capability in the right race.

Other Cardiff athletes producing personal best performances in Bedford were Arron Owen with 10.81 in his semi final of the under 20 men's 100m and 22.12 in his heat of the 200m; Kristian Jones equalled his best to clock 10.53 for fifth in the final of the under 20 men's 100m; and Richard Dangerfield, who hit form at the right time to take fourth place in the under 23 men's javelin with a personal best of 59.90m.

Others competing in Bedford included Naomi Reid (8th in the under 20 women's 800m), Sarah Omoregie (4th in the under 20 women's shot put), Gage Francis (8th in the under 23 men's triple jump), Ciaran Lewis (6th in the under 23 men's 3000m steeplechase) and Jonathan Bailey, showing a welcome return to competition with 2.01m in the under 23 men's high jump for eighth.

On the same weekend, Ieuan Thomas produced another impressive 3000m steeplechase in Holland, being timed at 8:34.93. Ieuan is ranked third in the UK and his time was again inside the A qualifying mark for the Commonwealth Games.
