Cardiff's men promoted

Cardiff's senior men's BAL team have today gained promotion to the premier division after a nail biting contest at Liverpool. Sheffield continued their dominance of the Division 1 and, with only 19 points covering second to fifth places, Cardiff finished fifth but this was enough to clinch promotion by one league point from third placed Kent AC. Congratulations to James Williams and his team.

Match Result:  1. Sheffield (317 points);  2. Gateshead (304);  3. Kent AC (300);  4. Liverpool (299);  5. Cardiff AAC (285);  6. Basingstoke (228);  7. Trafford (228);  8. Blackheath & Bromley (222).

Final League standings after 4 matches: 1. Sheffield (31 league points);  2. Cardiff AAC (23);  3. Kent AC (22);  4. Gateshead (18);  5. Liverpool (17);  6. Blackheath & Bromley (17);  7. Basingstoke (8);  8. Trafford (8).

Cardiff's individual winners were:  Joe Thomas (800m A);  James Thie (5000m A);  Dave Coleman (Discus A); Gareth Wiltshire (400m Hurdles B).
