Cardiff's internationals

Wednesday 12 July 2017

The roll call of Cardiff AAC athletes who have worn the international vests of Great Britain and Wales is one of the best in the country and many of them have won medals at the highest levels.

Nine more (David Omoregie, Bethan Davies, Aled Davies, Steve Morris, Jake Heyward, Kristian Jones, Sarah Omoregie, Lauren Evans and Naomi Reid) have now earned the accolade, some not for the first time.

Off to the Bahamas at the weekend will be Sarah Omoregie (shot put), Lauren Evans (100m hurdles) and Naomi Reid (800m) who will be representing Wales at the Commonwealth Youth Games that start on 20th July.

Also starting on 20th July are the European under 20 championships in Grosseto, Italy and Jake Heyward (1500m) and Kristian Jones (4x100m relay) are both in the Great Britain team. Jake is, of course, the reigning European under 18 champion at 1500m and is in his first year as an under 20.

The World Para Athletic Championships start in London on Friday, 14th July, and Aled Davies (F42 shot put and discus) and Steve Morris T20 800m, 1500m and 5000m) are both in the British team. Aled will be one of the favourites for medals and Steve faces a tough programme to cover three events.

Less than a forrtnight after the Para championships the IAAF World Athletic Championships open in London and Cardiff will be represented by David Omnoregie in the 110m hurdles and Bethan Davies in the 20k walk. Both David and Bethan are ranked number two in the UK in their respective events.

Cardiff AAC is proud of all its internationals and we wish them well over the next few weeks.
