Bethan ranked No. 1

Friday 29 December 2017

Every year Athletics Weekly publishes the UK senior Merit Rankings, compiled by respected statistician Peter Matthews.

This year, Cardiff AAC has a record thirteen members in the top twelve, with international race walker Bethan Davies taking pride of place as top in her events (10k/20k walks). David Omoregie is ranked No. 2 at 110m hurdles while Ieuan Thomas is No. 3 in the 3,000m steeplechase and Brett Morse is No. 3 in the discus.

These rankings recognise performances over the season, not one-off results, and are regarded as a better indicator of quality.

The full list is as follows:

Bethan Davies: 10k/20k walk: 1st
David Omoregie: 110m hurdles: 2nd
Ieuan Thomas: 3,000m steeplechase: 3rd
Brett Morse: Discus: 3rd
Curtis Mathews: Decathlon: 5th
Rebecca Chapman: Long jump: 5th
Tom Marshall: 1500m/1 mile: 7th
